P1 - P4 'Paws to Read' Programme to Pilot in Library
We are pleased to introduce Somersfield Academy’s “Paws to Read” literacy initiative in the Margaret Hallett Library. Molly offers students a safe, gentle, non-judgmental listening audience with unconditional positive regard. Reading to dogs has been proven to reduce childhood anxiety and improve confidence and attitudes towards reading.

Celebrating Black History Month and JEDI Initiatives at Somersfield
As we embark on the month of February, we are thrilled to share with you the exciting lineup of events. Initiatives and (as well as a few special surprise guests) planned to celebrate Black History Month and promote Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) within our school community. This annual observance provides us with a valuable opportunity to honor the contributions and achievements of Black individuals, both locally and globally, while also fostering understanding and appreciation for diversity in all its forms.
Remembering Reid Kempe: Annual Memorial Race Pays Tribute to a Multifaceted Bermudian Icon
The Reid Kempe Memorial Race stands as an annual tribute to a remarkable man who left an indelible mark on the Somersfield community. Edwin James “Reid” Kempe, a poet, musician, teacher, marketer, Olympic sailor, and boat restorer, passed away in August 2015 after a courageous six-month battle with cancer. Remembered not only for his diverse talents but also as a devoted family man survived by his wife Lucia and three children—Justin, Zoe, and Jonathan. Reid Kempe's legacy lives on through this poignant event.
J’yindae Preece: A Journey of Leadership, Service, and Fashion Dreams
J’yindae Preece is a dedicated DP1 student at Somersfield Academy and recipient of the Equity & Merit Scholarship. Their educational journey began at the age of 3. Over the years, they have actively participated in various school activities, demonstrating leadership and communication skills.

Eden Lightbourne: Excellence, Advocacy, and Aspirations
Meet Eden Samara Lightbourne, a dynamic and ambitious DP1 student at Somersfield Academy, whose educational journey has been marked by numerous milestones and accomplishments. Eden's dedication to academics, coupled with a passion for social justice, has earned her the prestigious Equity & Merit Scholarship, a testament to her commitment to fostering inclusivity and diversity in academic environments.
CAS Project: Jasmin, Desmond, & Cameron
Three DP2 students, Jasmin Hasselkuss , Desmond Crockwell, and Cameron Simons have been working on their project that features community service and helpful initiatives, focusing on the local Christ Church. Their goal is to provide food for people in need and spread awareness throughout the community about the issue of hunger in Bermuda.

World Religions Day is a global observance that promotes interfaith understanding and dialogue. This day is used to emphasize the commonalities among different religions. This day is also used to bring people of all faiths and beliefs to come together to celebrate diversity, foster peace and promote religious tolerance. World Religions Day is extremely important because it encourages individuals to learn about different religions, engage in interfaith discussions and work towards a more harmonious and inclusive future.
Somersfield Stars Shine at Butterfield Front Street Mile
Six students from Somersfield competed in the most prestigious youth running race on the island, The Butterfield Front Street Mile, with famous local athletes Flora Duffy, Tyler Butterfield and Dage Minors, to name a few, stamping their names in its record books throughout the years.
