Somersfield Raises Over $30,000 for Charity
In March, Somersfield Academy community banded together to raise over $30,000 for various charities through participating in community and student-led fundraisers. We were thrilled to see the strength of our community borne out, with our student-led enthusiasm spilling over to the rest of Bermuda and the world.
Somersfield Hosts Budding Chef Competition
In a positive rivalry that has been going on for the past four years, the Scouts and Cubs of Bermuda held their annual 'Budding Chef Competition' on Saturday November 22, at Somersfield Academy. This is the day when Scouts and Cubs must either, cook alone or with another male and have their food items judged. The categories for this year were fish, chicken, casseroles, and, of course, desserts
Private schools agree on policy for admissions
Private schools in Bermuda have come to an agreement over when primary one students will be admitted into their classes in an effort to relieve anxiety for parents. The six private schools that take five-year-olds will all inform parents no earlier than February 6 of next year whether their children have been accepted for the following September term.

Somersfield students Yuki Hoshina & Ryan Branco won third and first place, respectively, in their age categories of The Royal Gazette and Bermuda Red Cross Hurricane Art Contest.
Student Singers Perform at First Major Public Art Installation
Close to a thousand prayer flags were installed in the front portico of Hamilton City Hall and Arts Centre - the first major public art installation in Bermuda. Somersfield Academy Singers participated in the opening of the installation by singing a song written by Ronald Lightbourne called, "Small Blue Planet".
Theresa Hinton Places Third in Mathematics Essay Competition
The Bermuda Council of Teachers of Mathematics hosted their first Mathematics Essay Competition in April to celebrate Mathematics Month. This year's topics was "Math - Who Needs It?" for the Middle and Senior School levels.
'Peace Pole' dedicated at Somersfield
Children at Somersfield Academy were joined by their families to plant a prayer for world peace yesterday at a celebration to mark Earth Day.
