Somersfield athletes performed tremendously at the U13 and O13 Cross Country. Caelan Cabral led the U13 Boys to a solid 3rd place, while Gabby Cechini dominated the O13 Girls race with an impressive lead. A testament to dedication and skill, this event celebrated the spirit of youth athletics.

Cechini twins shine in Middle School Cross-Country Championships
The Cechini twins, Gabriella and Joseph, excelled at the Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Cross-Country Championships. Representing Somersfield Academy, Gabriella won the over-13 girls title with a time of 12:02, while Joseph secured victory in the over-13 boys race with a time of 11:37. Despite facing tough competition, they persevered through the challenging course.

Students tackle real-world challenges in personal projects
M5 students are “embracing the spirit of inquiry and innovation” as part of an annual event showcasing their personal projects. The projects include an investigation into eating disorders; recycling plastic into 3D printing filament; and the adaptation of a hydrogenerator into a water catchment system.
P1 - P4 'Paws to Read' Programme to Pilot in Library
We are pleased to introduce Somersfield Academy’s “Paws to Read” literacy initiative in the Margaret Hallett Library. Molly offers students a safe, gentle, non-judgmental listening audience with unconditional positive regard. Reading to dogs has been proven to reduce childhood anxiety and improve confidence and attitudes towards reading.

As we embark on the month of February, we are thrilled to share with you the exciting lineup of events. Initiatives and (as well as a few special surprise guests) planned to celebrate Black History Month and promote Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) within our school community. This annual observance provides us with a valuable opportunity to honor the contributions and achievements of Black individuals, both locally and globally, while also fostering understanding and appreciation for diversity in all its forms.
