Somersfield Denton Hurdle Memorial Awards 2024 Nominees
Somersfield student-athletes have been nominated for the prestigious Denton Hurdle Memorial Awards, presented by the BSSF and the Denton Hurdle Committee. These awards honour top student-athletes in their final year of primary, middle, and high school, recognising sportsmanship, leadership, and talent. The nominees represent Somersfield's commitment to excellence in school sports.
Somersfield Students Triumph in Bermuda Day Races
On Friday the 24th of May, our students demonstrated remarkable achievements in various races, showcasing the hard work and dedication they've invested throughout the year. A massive thank you to Vivienne Lochhead and Laurie Orchard for volunteering so much of their time to running club this school year. They have instilled a passion for running in many students that will hopefully remain a healthy habit for them throughout their lives. Thank you also to all of the other parents who facilitated their children taking part in the races on Friday.
Middle School Track & Field Finals
Somersfield participated with its largest team in the Middle School Inter-school Track & Field competition since before the pandemic. The hard work the students put in during PE lessons, on sports day and at lunchtime practices truly paid off as our students came home with 14 medals and numerous school records were broken!
Interschool Middle School Track and Field Results - Day 1
Somersfield Academy brought our biggest middle school track & field team since before the pandemic to day 1 yesterday. It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and a light breeze blowing down the home straight.
Secondary Divison Sports Day: A Day of Triumph, Remembrance, and Team Spirit
Somersfield Academy's Senior School Sports Day was a resounding success, graced with perfect weather for competition. Students vied for titles like Champion Boy and Girl, and the rivalry between the Makos and Tigers added to the excitement. M4 students impressed with their coaching and officiating skills, supported by the academy staff.
Community Run in Honour of Former Teacher Reid Kempe
The Somersfield Academy community gathers annually for the Reid Kempe memorial run, honouring the beloved former teacher. Led by spirited house captains and teachers, students race a challenging 3-mile route, embodying the competitive yet supportive ethos Kempe instilled. Daughter Zoe, a dedicated participant, cherishes the event as a tribute to her father's legacy and his passion for running. Reflecting Kempe's influence, the run fosters camaraderie and positivity, resonating deeply with participants.
Champions on the Track: Highlights from the U13 and O13 Cross Country
Somersfield athletes performed tremendously at the U13 and O13 Cross Country. Caelan Cabral led the U13 Boys to a solid 3rd place, while Gabby Cechini dominated the O13 Girls race with an impressive lead. A testament to dedication and skill, this event celebrated the spirit of youth athletics.
Cechini twins shine in Middle School Cross-Country Championships
The Cechini twins, Gabriella and Joseph, excelled at the Bermuda School Sports Federation Middle School Cross-Country Championships. Representing Somersfield Academy, Gabriella won the over-13 girls title with a time of 12:02, while Joseph secured victory in the over-13 boys race with a time of 11:37. Despite facing tough competition, they persevered through the challenging course.
Somersfield Stars Shine at Butterfield Front Street Mile
Six students from Somersfield competed in the most prestigious youth running race on the island, The Butterfield Front Street Mile, with famous local athletes Flora Duffy, Tyler Butterfield and Dage Minors, to name a few, stamping their names in its record books throughout the years.
