Interschool Middle School Track and Field Results - Day 1

Somersfield Academy brought our biggest middle school track & field team since before the pandemic to day 1 yesterday. It was a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and a light breeze blowing down the home straight.

Kicking off the day were the 200m heats.  Various field events took place throughout the day. M1s Cairo Burgess and Aniah Tucker, and M2s Jack Bull and Mia DaPonte all qualified for the finals next week Tuesday. Jack Bull also claimed 2nd place in the U13 boys long jump with an excellent jump of 4.63m.

Next up were the 800m heats. M1s Elena Bortoli and Kate Pursell, M2s Daisy Langley and Austin Murphy, and M3 Joey Cechini all qualified for the finals. Backing up her excellent form in the front street mile and cross country, Gabby Cechini won her 800m heat to qualify as top seed for the O13 girls final.

Congratulations to M3 Brooklyn Barnett who won the U13 Shot put with a throw of 8.90m. Brooklyn also got on the podium in discus with a 3rd place. Brooklyn is surely one of the strongest throwers in his age group on the island.

In the 100m heats, M1s Aniah Tucker and Cairo Burgess and M2 Jack Bull all qualified for the finals.

M2 Maikel Dela Cruz's basketball hops translated to the high jump where he finished 3rd on the podium in the U13 age group.

In the 400m M1 Elena Bortoli and M3 Gabby Cechini qualified for the finals.

All of our 4x100m relay teams will compete in the finals next week Tuesday May 14th.

The students demonstrated admirable sportsmanship throughout the day, cheering for their teammates as well as other schools' athletes.

Thank you to all of the parents who came out to support as well as the teachers who helped with supervision on the day.

We are incredibly proud of all of our athletes and look forward to continuing the competition next week on Tuesday! Look out for emails from the PE department confirming details for the conclusion of the competition on May 14th.
