Somersfield Students Bring Bermuda's Heritage to Life with 3D Models
Somersfield Academy's P5 Innovations students created 3D models of Bermuda National Trust properties Verdmont and Waterville. Led by Innovations Director Mark Brown, students measured, scaled, and modelled the buildings, which will be available on Thingiverse for public download & 3D printing in June.
Somersfield Academy Students Contribute to "Write It Down" Project, Preserving Bermuda's Senior Stories
Somersfield Academy students have contributed to the "Write It Down" project, led by Fredrick Hassell, MBE, which records the stories of seniors in Bermuda. Under the guidance of teachers Megan Troake and Jason Hammer, students conducted interviews with elders, capturing memories of life in Bermuda without modern conveniences. The project highlights the importance of preserving local history and fostering connections between generations.
Festival to celebrate the steel pan
Bermuda’s first Pan Jazz Festival, hosted by Somersfield Academy & Atlantic Publishing, celebrates the steel pan’s versatility. Featuring student & adult groups, it highlights local talent & aims to inspire the community. Held on May 5 at Somersfield, tickets are $50 patrons, $25 adults, $10 children.
Somersfield Academy Students Shine in Earth Hour Creativity Contest
Somersfield Academy students excelled in the Earth Hour Creativity Contest, with Derek Tucker-Peters and Mackenzie Paul winning in the 9-11 and 12-14 categories, respectively. Honourable mentions included Luke Madeiros, Nadia Attride-Ramella, Jackie Costello, Jasiri Minors, and Max Johnson.

Somersfield Academy students participated in the PartnerRe Dollars for Hours programme, redesigning the Reading Clinic's website to make it more engaging for children with learning challenges. Somersfield Academy Student Nasir Simmons Wins Commissioner for the Day Contest
Somersfield Academy's Nasir Simmons was the sole middle school winner in the Police Week competition, earning a prize for his essay. Along with other winners, he participated in a round-table discussion with the Commissioner of Police and enjoyed a ride on a marine unit vessel with his family.
Schools take part in Shakespeare festival
Somersfield Academy will perform The Tempest as part of the Bermuda Shakespeare Schools Festival at The Berkeley Institute. English teacher Charlie Judd praises the collaboration between local schools, while students Tess Spencer, Camilla Papadopoulo, and Shamar Morris share their experiences with the play.

Somersfield Alumnus Domico Watson: From School Success to Spotlight in Sports and Art
Domico Watson, a 19-year-old graphic designer and Somersfield Academy alumnus, excels academically at Savannah College of Art and Design. He recently designed artwork for the Carifta Games and an Olympic commercial, with his work featured on billboards and TV. Passionate about blending art with business, Watson balances his studies with extracurricular activities, inspired by his mother’s drive and ambition.
