Bermuda Heritage Month Gallery: Heritage Stations
In the spirit of this year’s Heritage Month theme, “The Future is Now,” students engaged with hands-on stations exploring Bermuda’s evolving identity. From sustainable agriculture and clean energy to cultural cornerstones like the Gombey and island architecture, the afternoon sessions sparked curiosity about how heritage and innovation can shape a thriving future for Bermuda.

Bermuda Heritage Month Gallery: Traditional Games
From marbles to box sledding and jump rope to can stilts, our morning was filled with the vibrant energy of Bermuda’s traditional childhood games. These playful stations not only sparked laughter and collaboration but offered a window into the creative, outdoor play of the past—reminding us that meaningful fun doesn’t require a screen.

Bermuda Heritage Month: Mini-Marathon
Our CH and LP students raced from “St. George’s” to “Hamilton” in the Somersfield Bermuda Day Mini Marathon! With big smiles, fast feet & roaring support, they brought the island spirit to our field. Congrats to all our runners—you made it a day to remember!

Ayden Gibbons ’30 Awarded Prestigious Andrew Morrison Music Scholarship
Congratulations to Ayden Gibbons ’30, recipient of the Andrew Morrison Scholarship from the Bermuda School of Music! A dedicated pianist and cellist, Ayden’s talent, technique & commitment have set him apart as a young musician to watch.

Girls with Grit, Going for Wickets!
Girls with grit and game! Somersfield’s Primary Girls Cricket Team hit White Hill Field for a day of skills, sportsmanship, and spirited matches against BHS and West Pembroke. With sharp plays and even sharper teamwork, they left it all on the pitch—and had fun doing it!

The Montessori Approach to Geometry
As with most lessons in a Montessori classroom, geometry begins with the spark of the imagination. Through story, students are told a wondrous tale about “geometry being one of the oldest studies in human existence. The beginnings of geometry can be traced back to ancient Egypt, from around 3000 BC. Since geo means “earth” and metria means “measure”, early geometry was all about measuring the earth to determine boundaries of ownership” (Bourne, 2010).

Spring Fair Raffle: A Tradition of Fun & Fundraising
Join us for Somersfield Academy’s Spring Fair Raffle on May 17, 2025! Raffle tickets will be sent home March 20–21, with sales supporting new school vehicles for student activities. Return all tickets by May 5, and the top seller wins a prize! Extra tickets available at Reception.

Primary Interschool Track and Field Highlights
Somersfield’s primary track and field team gave it their all at the Interschool Championships! With strong showings across sprints, jumps & throws, several athletes reached the finals, earning podium spots & personal bests. Congratulations to all who competed — you made us proud!

Learning with All Senses: Snappers Class Investigates Ocean Life with BIOS
Microscopes, coral, and questions about what makes a food chain work—Somersfield’s Snappers class visited BIOS to explore Bermuda’s marine life up close. The trip added real-world depth to their classroom study of plankton and sparked new curiosity about life beneath the surface.

Student Laptop Programme 2025
As part of our strategic plan, Somersfield Academy requires students in P5–DP2 to bring laptops to enhance learning. Devices can be purchased through the school or brought from home. School-supported laptops include warranty and setup. Deadline for order: 24 June 2025.
