M3 Students Host Charity Walk
Yusef Bushara, Jordan Etemadi, and Morgan Kempe will see their M3 Community Project put into action on Sunday, May 15 with a Family Fun 5K being held for the Bermuda Heart Foundation.

Teens bring families together for charity
Yusef Bushara, Jordan Etemadi, and Morgan Kempe have teamed up for a day of community service, bringing families and friends together in the name of better health. The Somersfield Academy trio set up the Family Fun 5K walk and contacted the Bermuda Heart Foundation as a worthy cause.

Somersfield Students Launch Robotics Programme at West Pembroke, Bridging Tech Gaps for Bermuda’s Youth
Somersfield students Kairo Morton, Bobby Cooper, and Enoch Richardson are teaching robotics to students at West Pembroke Primary through a 13-week programme called BermyBots. Kairo, who created the initiative, aims to bridge the tech gap between public and private schools. With $6,000 in sponsorship, the boys hope to expand BermyBots into a camp, empowering more Bermudian children with tech skills.

Community Projects that Matter
On Friday last week Somersfield Academy hosted its M3 Class of 2015 Community Project. The M3 Community Project focuses on community and service, encouraging students to explore their rights and responsibility to implement service as action in the community.

Children Take Care of Nature
The Children’s House students, aged four to six years old, went on a cleanup effort at the Botanical Gardens. It was the ultimate delight to watch young children function in nature. For one hour the children were observed communicating and helping one another carry out tasks that would have normally been done by adults. They were all focused on an important objective, which was to help their community.

Academy Hails Students’ Success
Somersfield Academy has hailed the success of its students, who passed the Middle Years Programme (MYP). All Somersfield students predicted to earn their full MYP certificate were successful, with students scoring ahead of international averages in five subjects, including English and extended mathematics.

Tapestry: Weaving a rich tapestry of artistic journeys
Combining the visual arts with the performing arts is not always easy, but Somersfield Academy will attempt to do just that this weekend with a special performance. The event, called Tapestry, will incorporate dance, gymnastics, visual arts, and music.

Students Complete CADA Programme
Thirty-four Somersfield students completed the CADA Life Skills Course which has been shown to reduce the risks of alcohol, tobacco, drug abuse and violence.

Young Students Swept by Joyful Tide of Opera
Opera, why opera? Somersfield Academy primary school parents have probably heard this question more than once in the last couple of weeks. Somersfield recently staged an opera with its primary school students as cast members. To pull off this feat they hired Sanford and Judy Jones of Savannah, Georgia who run a company called Youth Opera International out of Savannah, Georgia.

Folklore tale ‘Harlequin’ on stage at Somersfield
The Somersfield Primary department is preparing to present ‘Harlequin’, a children’s opera based on an Italian folktale on Friday, February 21 and Sunday, February 23 at Somersfield Academy.
