The Montessori Approach to Geometry
As with most lessons in a Montessori classroom, geometry begins with the spark of the imagination. Through story, students are told a wondrous tale about “geometry being one of the oldest studies in human existence. The beginnings of geometry can be traced back to ancient Egypt, from around 3000 BC. Since geo means “earth” and metria means “measure”, early geometry was all about measuring the earth to determine boundaries of ownership” (Bourne, 2010).

Spring Fair Raffle: A Tradition of Fun & Fundraising

Primary Interschool Track and Field Highlights
Somersfield’s primary track and field team gave it their all at the Interschool Championships! With strong showings across sprints, jumps & throws, several athletes reached the finals, earning podium spots & personal bests. Congratulations to all who competed — you made us proud!

Learning with All Senses: Snappers Class Investigates Ocean Life with BIOS
Microscopes, coral, and questions about what makes a food chain work—Somersfield’s Snappers class visited BIOS to explore Bermuda’s marine life up close. The trip added real-world depth to their classroom study of plankton and sparked new curiosity about life beneath the surface.

Student Laptop Programme 2025
As part of our strategic plan, Somersfield Academy requires students in P5–DP2 to bring laptops to enhance learning. Devices can be purchased through the school or brought from home. School-supported laptops include warranty and setup. Deadline for order: 24 June 2025.

Somersfield Earns 19 Medals at BSSF Middle School Track & Field Meet
Our middle school athletes brought home 19 medals from the BSSF Track & Field Meet, showing incredible dedication and sportsmanship over two exciting days of competition. From sprints to throws, their achievements highlight Somersfield's spirit of growth, respect, and personal achievement.

Somersfield Academy Students Place 2nd, 6th and 7th in KPMG Investment Challenge
Somersfield Academy’s Money Raiders placed 2nd in the 2025 KPMG Investment Challenge, earning $6,000 for the school. Cash Flow Cartel and RiskyBusinessSA also placed in the top 10. All three teams showed strong strategy and teamwork in a volatile market.

This week, we celebrated Teacher Appreciation Week—a chance to recognise the incredible dedication and care our educators show each day. With raffle draws, breakfast, cookies, and a special SPTA lunch, the week was filled with gratitude and joy.

M1 & M2’s Pop Art with a Bermudian Twist
Thirteen M1 & M2 students brought pop art to Pitt’s Bay Road in the School Mural Contest, reimagining Bermudian icons with Warhol-inspired flair. Their mural blended soft pastels, bold kites & printmaking techniques—earning Third Place and $2,000 in arts funding.

Help make the Secondary Dance unforgettable with our Pie-a-Teacher fundraiser! Donate to vote for the teacher you want to see pied—highest donors get to do the honours! Voting runs May 12–16 during recess in the Bio Lab & from 10:00–1:30pm at the Spring Fair on Saturday, May 17.
