Students tackle real-world challenges in personal projects
M5 students are “embracing the spirit of inquiry and innovation” as part of an annual event showcasing their personal projects. The projects include an investigation into eating disorders; recycling plastic into 3D printing filament; and the adaptation of a hydrogenerator into a water catchment system.

US academic aims to expose youth to wonders of science
Royal Gazette — Vernon Morris, a professor of chemistry and environmental sciences and the director of the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences at Arizona State University, has mentored more than 200 students, while his programmes have reached more than 50,000 students worldwide. We’re looking forward to welcoming him on campus this week.

Somersfield Academy Welcomes Community Partners on Campus
Bermuda Education Network [BEN] has formed a “community partnership with Somersfield Academy to provide reading support to public-school children with the Summer Learning Programme. We have donated the space for three weeks for one-to-one reading tutoring, art enrichment, and outdoor play for 44 students at its campus in Devonshire.

Zoë Mir Shortlisted for Foundation for Environmental Education
Bermuda’s winners were entered into the annual Global Competition and Somersfield Academy student Zoe Mir’s article submission entitled, ‘Plastic Pollution on Nonsuch Island, the Home of the Cahows’, has been shortlisted by the Foundation for Environmental Education for an international award.
