As the only secondary school in Bermuda to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP), Somersfield Academy is dedicated to promoting inquiry-based learning and fostering the development of essential skills among its students. At the heart of the MYP lies the Personal Project, a challenging endeavour that encourages students to engage in independent inquiry and create a significant piece of work reflecting their interests and abilities.
While Somersfield Academy has celebrated over fifteen successful Personal Project Expos, this year marks a significant milestone as the school welcomes an outside panel to enhance the event. The goal is to provide MYP students with valuable perspective, feedback, and the opportunity to showcase their projects to local community and business leaders.
The panel, comprised of esteemed community members with specialist knowledge and experience relevant to the topics covered by this year's personal projects, will spend the evening engaging with each of the twenty-two students. Their insightful feedback and guidance will offer students invaluable insights and inspiration as they navigate their academic journeys.
"We are excited to welcome such a distinguished group of panelists to our Personal Project Expo," said Carolyn Amaral, MYP Personal Project Coordinator at Somersfield Academy. "Their expertise and guidance will undoubtedly enrich our students' learning experiences and empower them to reach new heights of achievement."
The event promises to be an enriching and inspiring evening for students, faculty, and invited guests alike. At the conclusion of the expo, panelists will share overall highlights and insights with attendees, fostering a sense of community and collaboration within the school.
