Black History Month, celebrated annually in February, aims to recognize and celebrate Black contributions to society, spotlighting achievements despite historical racism. Notable Black Bermudians have left a lasting legacy with their work in eliminating racial discrimination.

Celebrating Black History Month and JEDI Initiatives at Somersfield
As we embark on the month of February, we are thrilled to share with you the exciting lineup of events. Initiatives and (as well as a few special surprise guests) planned to celebrate Black History Month and promote Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) within our school community. This annual observance provides us with a valuable opportunity to honor the contributions and achievements of Black individuals, both locally and globally, while also fostering understanding and appreciation for diversity in all its forms.

Culture Corner: World Religion Day
World Religions Day is a global observance that promotes interfaith understanding and dialogue. This day is used to emphasize the commonalities among different religions. This day is also used to bring people of all faiths and beliefs to come together to celebrate diversity, foster peace and promote religious tolerance. World Religions Day is extremely important because it encourages individuals to learn about different religions, engage in interfaith discussions and work towards a more harmonious and inclusive future.

Martin Luther King Jr was an American Baptist minister, activist, and political philosopher. He is known as one of the most prominent leaders of the civil rights movement.

Taking a Stand Against Bullying: SA's Anti-Bullying Week
This week at Somersfield Academy, we took a collective stand against bullying by actively participating in the annual Anti-Bullying Week. In the spirit of embracing individuality and fostering unity, our students donned odd socks as a symbol of celebrating uniqueness. The quirky initiative aimed not only to celebrate diversity but also to send a clear message to bullies that we stand united against their actions. Our vibrant, mismatched socks became a visual representation of our commitment to 'sock it' to bullying.

Somersfield Student attend Inaugural CURB Student Leadership Conference
Citizens Uprooting Racism in Bermuda (CURB) hosted its inaugural Student Leadership Conference on October 24th and 25th, 2023. Under the theme "Building Bridges, Empowering Change," with students gathering from across the island — seven Somersfield Academy students, Emma Allington ‘26, Naomi Crofton ‘27, Dez Darrell ‘27, Aalihay Haffar ‘26, Taylor Herzog ‘26, JitShuen Liew ‘27, and Zarah Siddiqi ‘26, joined the conversation to foster profound discussions on racial equity and community evolution among students.
Somersfield Donates Funds to Citizens Uprooting Racism Bermuda
Somersfield Academy held a school wide grub day on January 17th in recognition of the National Day of Racial Healing to help raise funds for CURB.
