Somersfield Students Raise $600 for Ukraine Aid Efforts
Students at Somersfield Academy raised $600 to support efforts in war-torn Ukraine. The school hosted a student-led bake sale and a friendship bracelet drive. The bracelets were created by students in the Ukrainian flag’s colours of blue and yellow.

Jenni Simpson Receives Royal Recognition
Jenni Simpson, a dedicated volunteer at Somersfield Academy's Duke of Edinburgh Award Centre, has been recognised for her outstanding contributions to Bermuda's youth. For over seven years, she has managed the Bronze Award programme at Somersfield, helping students grow through challenging activities and personal development opportunities outside the classroom.

School’s First IB Class Graduates Next Week
The first International Baccalaureate class at a private school yesterday prepared themselves for their high school graduation. The total of 12 Somersfield Academy pupils – some of whom had been at the Devonshire school since they were aged three – collected their caps and gowns for the groundbreaking graduation next Friday.

Heartbreak and Hope for Students Impacted by Covid-19
Lily Crofts, a student at Somersfield Academy and part of its International Baccalaureate Programme’s inaugural year group, was to have been Belle in the school production of Beauty and the Beast – until Covid-19 forced its cancellation.

Students cook for families affected by the pandemic
Somersfield Academy MYP students prepared & delivered meals to families impacted by COVID-19 as part of a service project. Led by Carolyn Amaral, they raised funds, cooked, & donated essentials. Students like Aisling Homan & Zaire Lodge reflected on the value of food security & community care.

M5 Students Show Off Personal Projects
School projects ranging from pop art-inspired recycled sneakers to soul food were showcased at Somersfield Academy yesterday. The projects were among the work displayed by M5 pupils as part of their International Baccalaureate middle-year programme, which covered topics such as social justice, sustainability, and religion.

Young Achievers: Selfless Aisling Honours Liam
Aisling Homan, 15, a Somersfield Academy student, wrote Fighting the Battle, a book inspired by her late cousin Liam, who died of cancer at age 3. Written for her IB project, the book shares stories of children battling cancer. Aisling plans to donate all proceeds to the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre.

Somersfield Students Shine In I.B. Exams
Somersfield Academy achieved a 95% success rate in the 2019 International Baccalaureate Organisation’s [IBO] Middle Years Program eAssessments. The Somersfield students’ average score of 41 points significantly surpassed the 2019 world average of 36 points.

Tech Training for Somersfield Teachers
Somersfield Academy teachers took to the classroom yesterday as students to learn about the latest educational technologies which included Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality, Coding, Papertronics, Little-Bits electronics, robotics, AI (artificial intelligence), 3D printing and makerspaces.
