In this thoughtful letter to The Royal Gazette, 16-year-old Somersfield Academy student Fae Sapsford urges Bermuda to prioritise environmental conservation. Reflecting on the Bermuda Zoological Society’s Youth Conference, she advocates for the Blue Halo marine reserve, highlighting its ecological and economic benefits.
Young Students Swept by Joyful Tide of Opera
Opera, why opera? Somersfield Academy primary school parents have probably heard this question more than once in the last couple of weeks. Somersfield recently staged an opera with its primary school students as cast members. To pull off this feat they hired Sanford and Judy Jones of Savannah, Georgia who run a company called Youth Opera International out of Savannah, Georgia.
Somersfield’s ‘Harlequin’ Production was a Group Effort
Somersfield Academy hosted the play Harlequin, with Tyler DoCouto and Kate Tobin alternating in the lead role. The production featured stunning costumes, creative set design, and a heartwarming story about friendship and generosity, brought to life by 60+ students under expert direction.
Somersfield Academy Students Shine in Shakespeare Workshop
Somersfield Academy students recently participated in workshops hosted by Steve Kirkham from Frantic Assembly, an award-winning UK theatre group. The workshops focused on using movement to enhance theatre performance. Students, including Yassine Chentouf, Mackenzie Paul, and Victoria Mello, gained valuable skills.
Folklore tale ‘Harlequin’ on stage at Somersfield
The Somersfield Primary department is preparing to present ‘Harlequin’, a children’s opera based on an Italian folktale on Friday, February 21 and Sunday, February 23 at Somersfield Academy.
Inspired to Produce Collection of Poems
Somersfield Academy student Fae Sapsford, in her final year, has published a poetry collection titled A Snag in the Mind of an Unimportant Stander. Inspired by a Canadian Festival of Authors, Fae wrote and illustrated the book, available on Amazon. Her work is part of Somersfield's independent projects programme.
Somersfield Academy Gymnasts Shine at International Competition
Somersfield Academy gymnasts excelled at the Abie Grossfeld Invitational in Connecticut. Max Blakeney won bronze in the all-around & silver on parallel bars, while Thomas Gesick claimed gold on vault. Ty Dunlop earned bronze in the floor exercise, showcasing Somersfield’s athletic talent.
