Multicultural Breakfast Anyone?
Twenty-four Montessori Academy students were wooed yesterday by Dale Butler as he introduced to them the 'teppanyaki' style of cooking.
From Sports Club to School
Visitors to the new Montessori Academy on the old National Sports Club site on Middle Road, Devonshire will find few semblances of what was once one of the Island's premier sports grounds. Two new classroom buildings were also constructed on the field to accommodate the 75 more students that enrolled this year, which increased the student body from 135 to 210.
Montessori Project Underway
Montessori project at Sports Club in Devonshire has begun and principal Margaret Hallett could not be more thrilled. Mrs. Hallett has been with the Montessori Academy since its quiet beginning at Tivoli in Warwick ten years ago.
School Set to Make a Move
Montessori Academy is set to start the September term at the Devonshire location where it will add middle years' students studying an international programme. Headteacher Margaret Hallett said: "It's a dream come true -- it has been many years in the planning, it's so encouraging to see it come to fruition.
Student Salute Diversity
Montessori Academy students saluted diversity during an International Day last week Friday. Students dressed in international costumes and paraded around the Peace Pole, singing international and cultural songs.
Montessori Academy to Move to Middle Road
Montessori Academy is planning to up its intake to 300 from a current school roll of 137 while expanding the age range after making the move to Middle Road, Devonshire in September 2001.
Montessori Academy Holds Real Page-turner
After three weeks of reading to raise money, the students at the Montessori Academy were able to raise over $10,000 dollars, more than double the amount raised in previous years. The 103 students of the school were able to make reading fun and read over 50,000 pages while they did it.
Montessori Teaches the True Meaning of Giving
Montessori Academy students show the meaning of "giving" this holiday season by filling shoe boxes with school supplies, toys and hygiene products and sending them to Ethiopia. The project takes place annually. Last year, they sent out more than 100 boxes to Bosnia.
Montessori Pupils Celebrate Cultures
International Day is an alternative to Hallowe'en and compliments United Nations Day, which was on October 24.'' Parents were invited to visit the classrooms from 11 a.m. to 11.45 a.m. to view the work that the children prepared for the day. The children then prepared for a parade around the Peace Pole, with parents forming a large circle around the outside of the children.
Montessori Academy Student, Ryan Branco, Wins in Art Competition
This year's Hurricane Art Contest drew 361 student drawings from talented children ages five to ten. The judges enjoyed the vibrant colours and various mediums used by the children. The theme was "Hurricanes and the Sea''.
