The children wore costumes representing various countries.

"It is a special way for the school to recognise our membership in the worldwide community,'' Montessori's spokeswoman Sarah Lorimer-Turner said.

"International Day is an alternative to Hallowe'en and compliments United Nations Day, which was on October 24.'' Parents were invited to visit the classrooms from 11 a.m. to 11.45 a.m. to view the work that the children prepared for the day.

The children then prepared for a parade around the Peace Pole, with parents forming a large circle around the outside of the children.

This was followed by a ten-minute ceremony, then it was off to the field for pot luck lunch.

During the International Day, Montessori also held a second annual book fair.
