Somersfield Academy is proud to introduce the graduating Class of 2026. This remarkable group of students will continue their educational journeys at universities across Canada, the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, and Bermuda, pursuing programmes ranging from business, economics, and engineering to psychology, marine biology, culinary arts, film studies, and medical illustration.

Moving Up ceremonies at Somersfield mark key milestones beyond the school year, recognising growth across Montessori and the IB journey. From P1 to M5, each transition reflects increasing independence, responsibility, and connection, bringing the community together to celebrate progress.
The Extended Essay is a defining part of the IB Diploma at Somersfield. Through a 4,000-word independent research project, students pursue a personal interest, refine a focused question, and engage in sustained analysis, building the confidence and skills needed for university-level study.
Somersfield Academy is accepting applications for the 2026–27 Equity & Merit Scholarships. 10 places available for Bermudian students entering M4 (S1)–DP1 (S3). These scholarships recognise academic excellence, leadership & community impact, with full or partial tuition support. Apply by March 9, 2026.
Governor Andrew Murdoch and Education Minister Crystal Caesar attended Somersfield Academy’s M5 Personal Project Exhibition, celebrating students’ year-long independent inquiry. Despite a brief power outage, students presented with confidence, resilience, and impressive depth of learning.
Somersfield Academy’s Robotics team returned to international competition for the first time since 2019, taking on top teams in Boston after just three months of preparation. Battling tough conditions and fierce competition, the team achieved an impressive 8th-place finish.
Somersfield Academy was also honoured to welcome esteemed guests including Tinee Furbert, Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors; Kim R. Wilkerson, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice; Andrew Pettit, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs; David Roberts, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Justice; Jache Adams, Minister of Public Works and Environment; Christopher Famous, MP for Devonshire East; and Owen Darrell, Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport. Their presence and thoughtful feedback offered students valuable real-world perspectives and professional insight.
Somersfield Academy continues its strong run in the KPMG Senior School Investment Challenge, with The Liquidators surging to first place this year. The result builds on recent top-ten finishes in 2024 and 2025, highlighting consistent student success in finance and investing.
Somersfield Academy’s M5 students will present the culmination of their International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) learning at the annual Personal Project Exhibition, held in the Somersfield Academy Gymnasium. The exhibition celebrates independent inquiry, creativity, and sustained commitment and forms a key component of Bermuda’s only IB MYP programme. Somersfield welcomes students from other schools to attend and experience the exhibition.
Through MAUS, students moved beyond history into human stories of family, trauma, and survival. Thoughtful discussions led to creative projects such as comics, maps, and newspapers that connected past and present, deepened empathy, and honoured voices and memories that must never be forgotten.
Somersfield’s Aviation Club has spent the term learning hands-on at the airport hangar with pilot Heather Nicholds of Blue Sky Flights, exploring flight, navigation, weather, radio comms, and more.
Somersfield Academy pauses on Remembrance Day to honour lives lost and lessons learned. In our Montessori–IB community, peace is not just remembered — it is practised daily through empathy, respect, and global citizenship.
Over the summer, M5 student Trudi wowed at Children’s House Camp, embodying the IB Learner Profile through her care, creativity, and energy. Students 15+ can volunteer at Somersfield Camps year-round—Winter, February, Spring, Summer, and October breaks—to gain skills, service hours, and make a difference!
Somersfield Academy came together to celebrate its annual International Day of Peace, led by the newly appointed Student Leadership Council. The ceremony featured speeches by SLC President Dezirae Darrell, a moving performance of Songs of Freedom by Ameina Soares, and remarks from SLC Chair Yemaya Iris, highlighting peace, empathy, and inclusion.
Somersfield Academy is sharing student achievements across Montessori and IB programmes. CAT results were well above grade level, MYP students showed remarkable growth—including our first Bilingual Certificate—and 94% of IB Diploma graduates earned first-choice university offers, reflecting dedication and strong support of our staff.

The school year’s almost over, but the adventure continues! This summer, M3+ will dive into Flowers in the Gutter—a gripping true story—before meeting author K.R. Gaddy in September. All M1+ get to pick an additional book Teacher Book Clubs.

Our annual Job Shadowing Day for M1–M5 students is on Monday, June 23, 2025. Students are encouraged to explore career interests by spending the day with a professional. Parents may assist with placements and are invited to host students. Forms are due by Friday, June 6.
Somersfield Academy’s Money Raiders placed 2nd in the 2025 KPMG Investment Challenge, earning $6,000 for the school. Cash Flow Cartel and RiskyBusinessSA also placed in the top 10. All three teams showed strong strategy and teamwork in a volatile market.
Somersfield Academy student vocalists took to the steps of City Hall on 6 May 2025 to perform in honour of World Asthma Day, hosted by Open Airways. DP1 Business students had an incredible experience at BELCO on during Occupational Health & Safety Day. Students were treated to a seminar led by Dr. Jeffrey Steynor on renewable energy and BELCO’s transition to sustainability. A restricted bus tour offered insight into production methods, cost structures, and safety protocols. Thank you, BELCO, for welcoming our students and sharing your vision for Bermuda’s energy future!
Somersfield M4 & DP1 students recently returned from New York after representing Palau, Turkey & the UK at the GCIMUN conference. From UN debates to NYC exploration, the weekend offered global learning & local pride.

In their aesthetics units, the girls explored dance and gymnastics, setting SMART goals to develop key skills. M1 & M3 focused on gymnastics, choreographing group performances, while M2 explored dance through improvisation & choreographic techniques. M4 students chose their own aesthetic, creating unique routines.
Somersfield students recently returned from an unforgettable Service as Action Trip to Peru, where they combined community work with cultural exploration. The trip gave students a chance to connect with new cultures, contribute to a community, and see the world from a new perspective.
Our M1 and M2 students embraced adventure and Québécois culture during their unforgettable spring break in Mont-Tremblant. They snowboarded and skied, practiced their French, and made lasting memories on this action-packed school trip!
