Gallery: Governor and Education Minister Attend M5 Personal Project Exhibition

February 6, 2026 — Somersfield Academy proudly hosted the second day of its annual M5 Personal Project Exhibition on Friday, February 6, welcoming distinguished guests including His Excellency Andrew Murdoch and the Hon. Crystal Caesar, Minister of Education. Both delivered closing remarks celebrating the students’ achievements and the depth of learning on display.

The M5 Personal Project Exhibition marks the culmination of a year-long independent inquiry in which students identify an area of personal interest, conduct sustained research, and create a product that reflects both process and reflection. The exhibition challenges students to demonstrate higher-order thinking, creativity, and authentic application of knowledge.

During the event, the Governor and the Minister met with students as they presented their projects, discussing the inspiration behind their work and the methodologies they employed. In a social media post following the exhibition, the Governor described the high quality and variety of projects as inspirational, noting the considerable effort students had invested over the past year. He also commended Mrs. Julie Yoon for another successful year as Personal Project Coordinator.

For the first time, Somersfield Academy extended invitations to other schools to attend the exhibition. Students and staff from Dellwood Middle School and The Chatmore British International School joined the event, engaging thoughtfully with presenters and asking insightful questions. The atmosphere reflected genuine intellectual exchange and peer-to-peer connection. Strengthening collaboration among Bermuda’s schools is essential to building a vibrant educational community and reflects Somersfield Academy’s Vision, Mission, and Values.

Despite inclement weather causing a temporary power outage during the exhibition, students remained composed and continued presenting without hesitation. Their resilience and professionalism were evident as they adapted seamlessly and ensured the integrity of the event remained intact.

Somersfield Academy extends sincere thanks to Governor Murdoch and Minister Caesar for their presence and encouragement, to Dellwood Middle School and The Chatmore British International School for participating, and to Mrs. Julie Yoon for her leadership. Most importantly, we commend the M5 students for their dedication, perseverance, and the intellectual maturity demonstrated throughout this significant milestone.

Somersfield Academy was also honoured to welcome esteemed guests including Tinee Furbert, Minister of Youth, Social Development and Seniors; Kim R. Wilkerson, Attorney-General and Minister of Justice; Andrew Pettit, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs; David Roberts, Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Justice; Jache Adams, Minister of Public Works and Environment; Christopher Famous, MP for Devonshire East; and Owen Darrell, Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport on the first day of the exhibition, Thursday, February 5. Their presence and thoughtful feedback offered students valuable real-world perspectives and professional insight.
