Gallery: Peru Service As Action Trip 2025
Somersfield students went on an unforgettable journey to Peru for their 2025 Service as Action Trip, immersing themselves in a unique blend of service, cultural exchange, and adventure.
The trip began in Lima, where students explored the city’s rich colonial history, visiting the Catacombs of San Francisco and the bustling Main Square. From there, they flew to Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire, where they toured the Sacsayhuaman Temple, the Sun Temple Qorikancha, and the lively San Pedro Market.
The heart of the trip was their time in the Misminay Indigenous Community, where students worked alongside local families, assisting with daily activities such as farming, weaving, and cooking. This hands-on experience provided a deep connection to Andean traditions and a firsthand look at the challenges rural communities face.
Beyond their service work, students explored the breathtaking landscapes of the Sacred Valley, visited the Pisac Market and Ruins, and marveled at the intricate Inca terraces of Moray and the ancient Maras Salt Mines. The highlight of the journey was a train ride through the Andes Mountains to Machu Picchu, where they spent the day exploring one of the world’s greatest archaeological wonders.
The experience was more than just a trip—it was an opportunity for students to broaden their perspectives, strengthen their sense of global responsibility, and leave a positive impact on the communities they visited.
