Somersfield Students Recognised for Environmental Filmmaking Excellence on Earth Day
Somersfield Academy students Miles and Macen Outerbridge won the Lower Primary prize for their environmental film Brothers Doing Their Part, while Hailey Hayward earned Best Use of Emotion for Ocean and Sunset at the fourth annual Earth Day Video Competition. Ten films addressed key environmental issues.
Somersfield Scholar Shines as Young Scientist, Poet & Wildlife Advocate
Gabrielle Reid, a Somersfield Academy MYP student, excels in science, poetry & wildlife advocacy. At 13, she published Whispers of the Sea, met Philippe Cousteau & won the Bermuda Blue Halo contest. A BAMZ volunteer, she shares her passion for nature while balancing academics & creative pursuits.
Getting published a ‘Dream’ for Shanyce Morris
At just 15, Shanyce Morris published Paria Street, a 100-page novel exploring themes like PTSD, abuse, & autism. The book, written for her Somersfield Academy IB personal project, is available on Amazon. Shanyce hopes to raise awareness & plans to continue her writing journey.
Somersfield launches App
Somersfield Academy has introduced a mobile app compatible with iPhones, Android, & Windows devices. It streamlines communication by delivering school updates, event alerts, & classroom notices directly to users’ smartphones or tablets, ensuring parents & students stay informed
Somersfield Academy Students Showcase Creativity in IB Personal Projects
Somersfield Academy MYP students presented diverse IB projects, from Cani Swan's hovercraft to Zydeja Burgess's fashion show raising $500 for charity. Other highlights included Sachio Harrison’s $15,000 walkathon fundraiser, Noah Tompkins’s music album, and Marcus Bassett’s sci-fi story.
Inspired by Malala, Selaah Creates Mural
Selaah Stephenson, 15, created a ten-foot mural to honor Malala Yousafzai’s advocacy for girls' education. Displayed at Somersfield Academy, Selaah’s project uses art to raise awareness of Malala’s courage and efforts for change. She aims to share her tribute with the public soon.
Somersfield Academy Student Sachio Harrison Leads Fundraising Effort for Cancer Charities
Somersfield Academy's Sachio Harrison, 15, inspired his school community to join his walkathon, raising $16,785.66 for LCCA and PALS. The funds will support cancer care and assistance, reflecting Sachio’s gratitude for the help his family received during his father’s brain tumour treatment.
Somersfield Student Bakes for a Cause
Alexandra Gerenda, 15, combined her love of baking with community service as part of Somersfield Academy's personal project. After months of studying and creating cakes, she hosted a fundraiser for the Eliza DoLittle Society, raising funds to support food security efforts in Bermuda.
Children Take Care of Nature
The Children’s House students, aged four to six years old, went on a cleanup effort at the Botanical Gardens. It was the ultimate delight to watch young children function in nature. For one hour the children were observed communicating and helping one another carry out tasks that would have normally been done by adults. They were all focused on an important objective, which was to help their community.
Sachio Harrison’s Walkathon: A Journey of Gratitude and Giving
15-year-old Somersfield student Sachio Harrison, inspired by his father’s recovery from a brain tumour, is organising a walkathon to raise $15,000 for LCCA & PALS. Part of his M5 personal project, the December 19 event will involve students walking or running to support medical aid and cancer care.
