Somersfield Academy Celebrates United Nations Day with a Showcase of Global Awareness
Somersfield Academy's United Nations Day Celebration on February 28 showcased students’ projects on global issues. Middle Years students presented on the UN’s role, environmental topics, and biomes. Younger students followed with their own presentations. Displays covered topics from global warming to local initiatives like reforesting Eritrea. The event concluded with a picnic for families.
Shamar Morris Excels at Commonwealth Day Youth Summit
At the Commonwealth Day Youth Summit, Shamar Morris from Somersfield Academy played a key role in the team that earned top honours. Their presentation on political issues related to illegal immigration in the Commonwealth impressed the judges. Shamar and his team showcased strong collaboration and insight, highlighting the significant role of youth in addressing global challenges.

15-year-old Giles Lorimer Turner, a Somersfield Academy alumnus now studying at Rugby School, has gained fame through viral YouTube videos of cliff-jumping in Bermuda. Alongside his brothers James and William, and friends from their school days, Giles creates videos that capture their adventures and highlight the beauty of Bermuda's shores. Their work has been praised by Tourism Minister Wayne Furbert.
Somersfield Primary 5 Innovations Class Explores Impact of Town Cut Modifications
The P5 Innovations Class, led by Mr Brown, explored the potential impact of modifying Town Cut. Students examined a government study, interviewed various stakeholders, and assessed environmental and economic concerns.
Primary Boys Football Final: Somersfield Triumphs Over Paget
Somersfield Academy won 1-0 in their first final. Nasje Brockington scored the decisive goal and Elijah Lloyd was the MVP.
Robotics team show they are programmed to win
The rookie Somersfield Academy Lego Robotics Team won three trophies at the FLL Toronto Regional Competition. They secured the robot challenge trophy, the most promising new entry award, and the best innovative solution trophy. Their idea involved using aluminium boxes to protect food containers from pests.
Students doing their part to stomp out crime
Shamar Morris and Camila Papadopoulo, both 14, are creating a calendar with their classmates at Somersfield Academy to support Crime Stoppers Bermuda. The project helps raise awareness and encourages young people to report crimes. The calendars will be given out to schools and businesses before Christmas.

Ailey McLeod and Aiyetoro Hinds highlight the fresh, fun approach, with some male roles played by girls.
