Nine Somersfield Academy students are preparing to represent Egypt at the Montessori Model United Nations in New York. The UN Club, guided by Miss Wilkes, meets twice weekly to research and prepare position papers on topics like children's rights and poverty. Somersfield Academy's Olivia Lunn Wins First Place in Fourth Belco Student Art Competition
Olivia Lunn, a 10-year-old student from Somersfield Academy, won first place in the Primary 6 category of the Belco Student Art Competition. Held at the Bermuda National Gallery, the competition saw a record 774 entries from 19 schools. With a theme of "Self-Portraits," Olivia's work stood out among her peers, earning her top honors in her age group.

Somersfield: First School in Bermuda to Receive CESI Accreditation
Somersfield Academy has become the first outside Canada to receive official accreditation by the Canadian Educational Standards Institute (CESI). Ten assessors from the institute visited Somersfield Academy in Devonshire in April and unanimously voted to rank the school on a par with the best Canadian schools.
Somersfield Plans New Gym, Two-storey Building
Somersfield Academy has sought final planning approval to build a new gymnasium and classroom building to replace an existing external hard surfaced court area and will serve as a multifunctioning gym, assembly, drama and acting space for the complete actual body of the school.
Somersfield Student Inspires Detroit Mayor with Heartfelt Letter at Alpha Phi Alpha Ball
At the Seventh Annual Black and Gold Ball hosted by the Bermuda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, ten-year-old Tory Joshua Vernon Bassett of Somersfield Academy stole the show. Inspired by Detroit's Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, Tory wrote him a heartfelt letter, expressing his admiration and determination to pursue his dream of becoming a math teacher. Kilpatrick, touched by the letter, met Tory during his visit, highlighting the impact of young voices and personal inspiration.

Students from Somersfield Academy joined peers from around the world at a United Nations conference in New York, discussing the role of corporations in modern society. Ben Collis represented Somersfield at the event, organized by the UN International School. The conference, part of an initiative promoting global peace and tolerance, allowed students to explore critical issues such as healthcare, the environment, and development.
Somersfield Students to Earn $20,000 Through PartnerRe's 'Dollars for Hours' Charitable Initiative
Somersfield Academy students will participate in PartnerRe's 'Dollars for Hours: Youth and Community in Partnership' initiative, earning $20,000 for their school by engaging in charitable projects. They will join seven other local secondary schools, sharing $160,000 in funds. Students aged 14-18 will complete 12-24 hours of work for local charities, benefiting organisations like the Bermuda National Trust and PRIDE.
Somersfield Academy is the First to Offer IB Programme for Middle School in Bermuda
Somersfield Academy in Bermuda has become the first local school to offer the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP). Recently recognised by the International Baccalaureate Organisation, the school is among 16 globally accredited institutions this month. Principal Margaret Hallett and MYP co-ordinator Jennifer Meachum highlight the IB's rigorous, internationally recognised curriculum, beneficial for students in a globally mobile community.
