Somersfield Wins Overseas Robotics Event
The Somersfield Academy Lego robotics team won first place at the IEEE Ottawa Robotics Competition with a 97/100 score. Their "King of the Hill" robot excelled in challenges, thanks to the team’s expertise and guidance from coach Mark Brown and mentors. Somersfield’s robotics programme continues to thrive.
Somersfield Academy Students Showcase Creativity in IB Personal Projects
Somersfield Academy MYP students presented diverse IB projects, from Cani Swan's hovercraft to Zydeja Burgess's fashion show raising $500 for charity. Other highlights included Sachio Harrison’s $15,000 walkathon fundraiser, Noah Tompkins’s music album, and Marcus Bassett’s sci-fi story.
Somersfield Academy Recognised at Bermuda National Trust Awards
At the Bermuda National Trust’s annual awards ceremony, individuals and groups were honoured for their exceptional contributions to preserving and enhancing Bermuda’s natural and cultural heritage. Among the distinguished awardees were Somersfield Academy’s Children’s House Division and Robin Horsfield, recognised for their environmental initiatives.
Somersfield’s Robotics team heading for Florida
The Somersfield robotics team, Bermuda's first Lego robotics group, has been invited to the World Championship in Lakeland, Florida. Competing with teams from 20 countries, they are tackling food contamination for the Food Factor competition. Coaches praised their efforts in their first robotics tournament year.
Robotics team show they are programmed to win
The rookie Somersfield Academy Lego Robotics Team won three trophies at the FLL Toronto Regional Competition. They secured the robot challenge trophy, the most promising new entry award, and the best innovative solution trophy. Their idea involved using aluminium boxes to protect food containers from pests.
