Home visits are a common practice in Montessori programs worldwide, offering a unique opportunity for children and their teachers to connect before the school year begins. These visits are particularly crucial for younger students, who often experience separation anxiety as they embark on their educational journey.

Co-Curricular Programme Launched!
This initiative, spearheaded by the Director of Activities, Emma Moran-Lee, is set to provide students with a diverse range of engaging and enriching extracurricular experiences, further enhancing the school’s unique curriculum that combines Montessori beginnings with an International Baccalaureate [IB] finish. The Somersfield Academy CCA programme offers a wide array of activities designed to cater to the interests and passions of students. The range of activities allows students to explore their talents, develop new skills, and foster a love for lifelong learning.

International Peace Day: A Time for Reflection and Action
At Somersfield, celebrating the International Day of Peace is a cherished tradition. This year, it was led by the student council, who addressed critical global issues, including the conflict in Ukraine, the devastating earthquake in Morocco, and the wildfires that raged in Hawaii.
The entire school community gathered to listen to these impassioned speeches, fostering awareness and empathy among students, the ceremony was live-streamed, allowing the message of peace to resonate beyond the school walls.

Classes Make Plastic Pledge After Exploring Impact of Pollution on Environment
As part of Somersfield Academy’s Montessori cultural curriculum, the students in Ms Osborne and Ms Raynor’s class explored the animals, plants, and habitats of the world. A huge emphasis is made on the interdependence of all living things with attention given to how humans affect their environment. The primary students recently began looking at our ocean habitat.

Children Take Care of Nature
The Children’s House students, aged four to six years old, went on a cleanup effort at the Botanical Gardens. It was the ultimate delight to watch young children function in nature. For one hour the children were observed communicating and helping one another carry out tasks that would have normally been done by adults. They were all focused on an important objective, which was to help their community.

Somersfield Montessori Trust Team Wins Bank of Butterfield’s Summer Student Employment Programme Challenge
A team of nine students won the Bank of Butterfield’s Summer Student Employment Programme Challenge. They worked with Somersfield Academy Montessori Trust, creating business proposals for local charities, and earned a $1,650 donation.

Somersfield Academy Recognised at Bermuda National Trust Awards
At the Bermuda National Trust’s annual awards ceremony, individuals and groups were honoured for their exceptional contributions to preserving and enhancing Bermuda’s natural and cultural heritage. Among the distinguished awardees were Somersfield Academy’s Children’s House Division and Robin Horsfield, recognised for their environmental initiatives.
