Tyler Smith To Present Awards At Run Event

September 24, 2024 — Olympian and Somersfield Academy alumnus Tyler Smith will present awards at the 2024 Somersfield Fun Run and Walk, a community fitness event benefiting the school’s Bursary Fund.

A spokesperson said, “Somersfield Academy alumnus and Olympian Tyler Smith will be presenting awards at this year’s Somersfield Fun Run and Walk. Smith graduated from the school’s International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme in 2014, having attended Somersfield’s Montessori programme from the age of 3.

“Tyler Smith’s athletic achievements include representing Bermuda in multiple international triathalon competitions, culminating in his participation in the 2024 Olympics in Paris, France. His deep connection to Somersfield Academy continues, and he is excited to support the community through this special event.”

“I’m proud to be a part of this event and honoured to present awards at a place that gave me the tools to succeed both academically and athletically,” Smith shared.

The spokesperson said, “The Somersfield 5K offers an exciting opportunity for students, alumni, and families to come together in a day focused on fitness and school spirit. The event takes place on September 29, 2024, around Somersfield Academy grounds in Devonshire – with distance options of 400m, 1 mile, and 5k non-competative and competitive walk and run. Proceeds will benefit school’s the Bursary Fund.”

David Lunn, Race Director added, “Tyler Smith is the first Somersfield Academy alumni to become an Olympian. The students will be very excited to meet him. We have a lot of students who participate in triathlons in particular and he could be inspiring the next Olympian in 10-15 years. Tyler is a wonderful role model, and we really appreciate him taking part in our event.”
