Somersfield Presents Matilda The Musical JR
January 19, 2025 — Somersfield Academy will present Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR. on Friday, January 31 at 5.00pm and Saturday, February 1 at 2.00pm and 6.30pm in the Somersfield Academy hall.
A spokesperson said, “The streets will be filled by the smell of rebellion when Somersfield Academy presents Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical JR. Based on Roald Dahl’s beloved book Matilda and adapted from the award-winning musical, this junior version tells the story of an extraordinary girl who uses her imagination and courage to change her destiny.
“Led by Artistic Director Gerlie Bell, with Production Coordinator Tiffany Fox, Music Director Janice Pearman, and Drama Club Supervisors Caroline Brown and Marilyn Swainson, Somersfield Academy’s Drama Club has been working tirelessly to bring this highly anticipated show to life.”
Director Gerlie Bell expressed her admiration for the students’ dedication to the production: “From the very beginning, the students have brought incredible energy, creativity, and commitment to this production. What makes Matilda so special is its message — that no matter your size or circumstance, you have the power to make a difference. These students have embraced that wholeheartedly. They’ve come together, supported one another, and poured their hearts into creating something extraordinary for the community. We couldn’t be more proud of them.”
The spokesperson said, “The themes of Matilda reflect the core values of Somersfield Academy’s mission to inspire socially conscious, independent thinkers who are prepared to succeed with confidence, awareness, and compassion.”
“Our students aren’t just performing a musical; they are living out the values we hold dear at Somersfield Academy,” adds Bell. “Through this production, they are learning to take responsibility, demonstrate empathy, and work collaboratively — all essential skills for creating a more just and compassionate world.”
Ms. Bell expressed her appreciation: “We also want to express our deepest gratitude to the parents for their incredible support throughout this process. Their involvement and encouragement have been invaluable and truly reflect the wonderful community spirit of Somersfield.”
“We would especially like to thank Ptix for being one of the show’s sponsors and for their continued support of the arts at Somersfield,” commented Kristen Scott Ndiaye, Marketing and Development Manager. She added, “Somersfield Academy’s ‘Advertise for the Arts’ campaign invites local businesses to support the school’s arts programmes through purchasing advertising in the school’s playbill and yearbook. Last year, the community’s response was overwhelmingly positive, and we’re excited to build on that enthusiasm this year.”
