Primary Cross Country Success at the National Stadium
The bronze medal Over 9 Boys Cross Country Team
On Thursday, February 5th, our Primary Cross Country team headed to the National Stadium to compete in the BSSF Interschool Cross Country Championships—and what a fantastic day it was for Somersfield!
There were four races in total, with our Under 9 boys and girls qualifying through a race held on the Somersfield field, and our Over 9 boys and girls earning their spots via the Reid Kempe Run. We proudly entered eight runners in each race, ready to give it their all.
The day kicked off with the Under 9 girls, and for many of them, this was their very first time representing Somersfield in a sporting event—an exciting and memorable milestone! They were followed by the Under 9 boys, then the Over 9 girls, and finally the Over 9 boys, who closed out the day with an outstanding performance.
All our runners competed with determination, pride, and excellent sportsmanship. We were especially impressed by those students who were called up at the last minute when teammates were unable to attend. Our reserve runners stepped up confidently and played an important role in supporting their teams—well done!
A huge highlight of the day was our Over 9 boys team placing 3rd overall—an incredible achievement. Congratulations to them, and to all our runners, for representing Somersfield so positively.
A big thank you goes out to the parents who helped transport students and cheered enthusiastically from the sidelines—you made the day even more special. We would also like to thank Mrs. Troake and Ms. Winstanley for coaching the teams during class time, lunch times, and an extra practice around the Arboretum.
