Spirit Week Grub Days: What to Wear, When to Wear It
Spirit Week is one of the most anticipated weeks of the school year at Somersfield Academy, and Grub Days are a big part of the fun. Each day has a different theme, giving students a chance to show spirit, get creative, and, in some cases, pause for something more meaningful. Here’s what to expect this week.
Monday: Pajama Day
We’re kicking off Spirit Week in the most comfortable way possible. Students are invited to come to school in their pyjamas and ease into the week feeling relaxed and ready for the fun ahead.
Tuesday: House or Class Colours Day
Tuesday is all about team spirit.
Secondary students should wear their house colours
Primary students should wear their class colours
This Grub Day ties into Secondary Sports Day and is a great opportunity to show pride, unity, and friendly competition across the school.
Wednesday: Purple Day
Wednesday is a meaningful day for our community. Students are asked to wear purple, Eoghan Homan’s favourite colour, in his memory.
Eoghan Homan was selected as a 2026 St. Baldrick’s Ambassador. Each year, St. Baldrick’s chooses five children as ambassadors—four living and one deceased—reflecting the reality that 1 in 5 children do not survive their cancer diagnosis. Wearing purple is a way to honour Eoghan, raise awareness, and show solidarity. Donations are encouraged.
Thursday: Game Changers Day
Thursday celebrates women in sport. Dress as your favourite female athlete or wear a sports jersey to mark the first Women’s FIFA World Cup in 1991, held 35 years ago. That year is also significant to our school—it’s the year Somersfield Academy was founded. This Grub Day connects athletic achievement, representation, and Somersfield’s own history.
Friday: 1990s Fashion Day
We’re ending the week with a throwback. Dress in classic 1990s fashion to celebrate the era Somersfield was born in. Think denim, oversized tops, bright colours, plaid, and other iconic 90s styles. It’s a fun, nostalgic way to close out Spirit Week together.
Spirit Week is about participation, creativity, and community — we look forward to seeing Somersfield show its spirit all week long.
