Rosa Parks Character Award: Namazio Dill ‘26

November 26, 2025 — Namazio Dill ’26 has been awarded the Department of Education’s Butterfly Award, established in honour of the 70th anniversary of Rosa Parks’ historic stand in Montgomery, Alabama, and delivered through the Citizenship Education Initiative partnership with Imagine Bermuda.

Namazio is a student whose character and perseverance embody the spirit and legacy of Rosa Parks. He consistently demonstrates the core values exemplified by Rosa Parks - agency, courage, empathy, and resilience. He is kindhearted, loyal, and protective of those around him. Thoughtful beyond his years, Namazio is often described as an “old soul” someone who carries wisdom, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility for his community and family.

At Somersfield, Namazio serves as a House Captain, where he leads his peers with integrity and quiet strength. He has successfully completed the Duke of Edinburgh International Gold Award, showing remarkable determination and teamwork. Outside the classroom, Namazio is deeply engaged in both school and community life. He plays for the Somersfield Over-16 football team and also represents the Somerset Cricket Club U18 football team and has recently been asked to play for Vasco’s men’s team. His love for nature and service shines through and was rewarded when his role as a junior volunteer at the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum, and Zoo was turned into part time employment. He contributes his time generously and enthusiastically. He also enjoys spending time fishing with friends, an activity that reflects his calm, grounded, and reflective nature.

What is most inspiring about Namazio is that, despite the challenges he has faced, he carries himself with genuine joy and positivity. He continues to uplift those around him, offering compassion, support, and a steady presence to peers and adults alike.

For his determination, his leadership, and his embodiment of empathy and courage, Namazio Dill deserves this nomination. We are honoured to put forward a young man whose character truly reflects the enduring legacy of Rosa Parks.
