“It is an honour to offer my congratulations to all participants, nominees, families, and supporters attending the 39th Annual Denton Hurdle Memorial Awards. This long-standing tradition not only celebrates individual athletic excellence but reflects the very best of Bermuda’s youth. Tonight, we pay tribute to young men and women who have demonstrated not just talent in their chosen sport, but also integrity, dedication, and discipline in every aspect of their lives. The Denton Hurdle Awards hold a special place in the heart of our community. This ceremony and associated recognition serve as a living tribute to a man whose life and career embodied the values of hard work, sportsmanship, and community service. Denton Hurdle believed in the importance of nurturing youth, building character, and striving for excellence. His example continues to light the way for our student-athletes today. Each nominee here tonight represents hours of commitment, early mornings, late practices, setbacks that they have overcome, and goals achieved. Whether you are taking home an award or not, your presence here means that you are seen, your efforts are valued, and your journey matters. We know that sport teaches us lessons far beyond the game, it teaches us how to lead, how to persevere, how to win humbly and lose gracefully. These are lessons that will serve you well for a lifetime. To our schools, coaches, administrators, parents, and supporters, thank you. Your efforts provide the structure and encouragement that allow these athletes to flourish. You are investing not only in the athletes of today but in the leaders of tomorrow. On behalf of the Ministry of Tourism & Transport, Culture & Sport, I congratulate each of you for your achievements and encourage you to continue striving, continue growing, and continue inspiring.”
