Somersfield Community Goes The Distance on Bermuda Day

Somersfield Academy celebrated an inspiring display of athleticism, community spirit, and determination during this year’s Bermuda Day races. From students to staff, alumni to volunteers, members of the Somersfield community showed up in force to participate in multiple events across the island’s iconic race day.

Somersfield teacher David Lunn achieved his personal goal, finishing the half marathon in 1:25:16. His strong performance placed him 8th overall and 2nd in his age group. “All of the cheers really lifted my energy and raised my spirits,” Lunn said. “I’m already looking forward to next year and building on this performance.”

Somersfield alumnus Domico Watson also had an outstanding run, finishing 16th overall and 8th in his age group with a time of 1:27:28.

Fellow staff members Brice Pursell and Kristen Scott Ndiaye completed the full half marathon as well, while Jenifer Bielby and Tanisha Edwards took part in the relay event.

A group of MYP students—Hayes Ingham, Mathis Stevens, Riley Maybury, and Braeden Fraser—formed a relay team of their own and completed the race with an excellent time of 1:55:59.

Younger Somersfield students made their mark in the Heritage Day Junior Classic. Caelan Cabral, Evelyn Fahy, Leyla Crews, Leo Heyland, Aine Fahy, and Mason Crews all competed, with Evelyn placing third in her age group and Leyla securing first place in hers.

In the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Bicycle Race, students Andrew Thomas, Gordon Smith, Elena Bortoli, Walker Smith, Austen Carr, Owen Davis, Hudson Pitcher, and Matteo Bortoli represented Somersfield proudly. Notably, both Elena and Walker took top honours in their respective age categories. Somersfield’s Board Chairman, Dennis Fagundo, also participated in the cycling event.

The day was made even more special thanks to the support of community volunteers, including Amy Winstanley and Megan Troake, who served as marshals along the race route.

Somersfield Academy congratulates all participants and extends its heartfelt appreciation to those who supported, volunteered, and cheered on our runners and riders throughout the day.
