Shining examples: Recipients of the Young Citizen of the Year Awards with Minister of Community Culture and Sports Wayne Scott following an awards ceremony at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess.

November 21, 2013 — Thirty-nine students from 29 schools were honoured at the 2013 Young Citizens Awards for their “exemplary citizenship.” Recognised as “what is right in Bermuda,” these students, nominated by peers, exemplify kindness, fairness, and leadership.

Minister Wayne Scott emphasised the importance of celebrating such achievements, saying:
“Too often, we are inundated with adverse media reports of our children involved in immoral and antisocial behaviour. Lost among those stories are the stories that illustrate our students’ achievements and admirable work in our community. Bermuda’s future is now, and the students we are honouring today are already stepping up to build a better Bermuda.”

The award winners represent a bright future for Bermuda. Universal Children’s Day, recommended by the United Nations, reminds us that fostering young citizens’ well-being and achievements is a globally cherished aspiration.

We’re delighted to recognise our current students and alumni who were honoured at the 2013 Young Citizens Awards for their exemplary citizenship:

  • Lily Crofts (Primary)

  • Hana Bushara (Middle)

  • Reem Bushara (Senior)
