Somersfield’s High-Performance Football Programme in Partnership with Vasco De Gama
Devonshire, Bermuda – October 12, 2023 - Somersfield Academy, in collaboration with Vasco De Gama, is thrilled to introduce its High-Performance Football Programme aimed at nurturing young athletes and providing them with a comprehensive platform for growth and development. This program offers a unique opportunity for athletes to excel in both mental and athletic aspects, fostering personal growth and character development.
The High-Performance Programme is divided into three terms, each catering to specific age groups and skill levels.
Coach Leo Burgess said, “Through a unique partnership with Somersfield Academy, we offer a program that is specifically designed to help enhance athletic capabilities, build player confidence and mental stability; provide a progressive player development model like our academy for players to go through from the earliest of ages of 7 to 18 years of age that increases their game understanding, skills, and passion for the sport.
“The goal is to align our academy with Somersfield Academy to develop players further whilst also developing a specialized sports program to assist the school in helping players and students in general to reach their fullest potential.”
Director of Activities, Emma Moran-Lee said, “The High-Performance Football Programme offers numerous benefits to athletes, including mental and athletic development, individual skill improvement, personality and character growth, and a deeper understanding of the game. Additionally, this program provides a unique opportunity for aspiring athletes to join the Vasco Opportunity Pathway (VYP).”
VYP opens the opportunity for Somersfield students to participate in the Saturday football Bermuda League, where transfers and registrations are accepted every year between June and July 15th. VYP, a youth sports organization with age groups ranging from 5 to 18, is also introducing an all-girls program starting in September 2024. The girls' program will be initiated in September 2023 within the school through LBFA, providing a clear pathway for young female athletes to transition into the VYP program.
