Somersfield 1st and 2nd Teams Score Big in Badminton League
Wednesday, January 14 — Somersfield Academy hosted the 2nd round of the senior school badminton league yesterday afterschool.
Somersfield 1st team (Dezirae Darrell, Paige Lindo, Matthew Troake, Max Wallace and Aaron Lee) won both their matches against Saltus and Warwick and are currently in 1st place in the league. It was a close match vs Warwick, 2-2 after the singles and doubles games. But our mixed pair of Dezirae and Aaron won the deciding match 21-7 to take the win.
Somersfield 2nd team (Sydney Troake, Cora DeSilva, Annabel Olutiola, Hayleigh Cherry, Max DeCouto, Raul Maldonado-Jaime and Maikel Dela Cruz) also won both their matches and have moved up to 3rd place in the league. They beat Berkeley 4-1. Special mention to Raul for winning the singles, he faced a very experienced and older player but won the match 21-19. Their second match against Cedarbridge was a 5-0 win for Somersfield.
A big thank you to Margot Taylor, Emmalyn Tothong and Kate Pursell for helping out Cedarbridge and Berkeley who struggle to get female players. It is great experience for them to play in the senior school league.
