Somersfield Academy & LB Academy Celebrate Successful Football Season

December 16, 2025 — Somersfield Academy is fortunate to have a strong partnership with LB Football Academy. A dedicated team of five coaches, led by Leo Burgess, volunteer their time to coach our school teams from September to December during lunchtimes. They provide high-quality football sessions for our P5–DP students three days a week, supporting both skill development and a love for the game.

The LB coaches have been instrumental throughout the busy football season of league fixtures and tournaments. Their positive and inclusive coaching style has had a significant impact on our students, contributing greatly to the success of our teams over the past two years. Having such positive male role models within our school community is incredibly important, and we are extremely grateful for the commitment and enthusiasm they bring to the programme.

Coach Rychus served as the lead coach for the Primary Girls, Primary Boys A, and Primary Boys B football teams this season. He was supported by Coach Shon, along with Coach Kameron and Coach Jayden, all of whom generously contributed their time, energy, and expertise.

The Primary Girls team enjoyed a successful season, reaching the semi-finals of both the league and the 7-a-side tournament. The Primary Boys B team worked hard throughout the season, showing great commitment and teamwork, although they did not progress beyond the group stages of the 6-a-side tournament. The Primary Boys A team had a strong campaign, advancing to the semi-finals in both the league and the 6-a-side tournament.

The U13 Boys team, coached by Kyshon Burgess (Coach Shon), had an outstanding season. They remained undefeated in the 11-a-side league and won the knockout cup for the second consecutive year. The final finished 3–3, with Somersfield securing a 7–6 victory on penalties. In the 6-a-side tournament, the team topped their group before narrowly losing to Whitney in the semi-finals.

The O13 Boys team, also coached by Coach Shon, completed an undefeated league campaign under the leadership of team captain Matteo. In the 11-a-side knockout tournament, they reached the semi-finals, where they drew 1–1 with Whitney before losing 4–2 on penalties. The team also progressed to the semi-finals of the 6-a-side tournament, drawing 1–1 before a narrow 4–2 penalty shootout defeat to Warwick.

The Middle School Girls team progressed to the semi-finals of the knockout tournament and recorded several league victories, demonstrating strong development and resilience throughout the season.

At senior level, the U16 team, coached by Kyson Burgess and David Lunn, and the O16 team, coached by Mr Wade, both represented Somersfield Academy in the 6-a-side tournament.

In addition to school team coaching, the LB coaches offer before-school and after-school training sessions for students from P3 to M3. These high-quality, small-group sessions provide personalised coaching tailored to each player’s needs, helping students develop their skills, confidence, and overall performance.

This programme is an excellent opportunity for players of all abilities to train in a positive, supportive environment and take their game to the next level. Parents can register their child for the programme: Somersfield Training Program Term 2

Overall, the dedication of the LB Football Academy coaches has played a vital role in the development, confidence, and success of our students, both on and off the pitch.
