Primary Track and Field Team Delivers Record-Breaking Performances
Wednesday, April 29 — Somersfield Academy’s Primary Track and Field Team had an outstanding three days of competition at the National Sports Centre, showcasing determination, talent, and incredible school spirit. Our athletes competed in the qualifying events on Thursday, April 23rd and Monday, April 27th, with the finals taking place on Wednesday, April 29th. Students who finished in the top eight of their events earned a place in the finals.
A total of 40 Somersfield students proudly represented the school, and we were thrilled to have 20 students qualify for finals day—an amazing achievement. Throughout the meet, our athletes gave their very best effort, supported one another, and competed with great sportsmanship.
The finals brought success, with some fantastic performances:
Rio Wookey placed 3rd in the Under 10 Boys 800m.
Aine Fahy placed 3rd in the Under 10 Girls 400m.
Gabrielle Saunders placed 1st in the Over 10 Girls 100m, 200m, and Long Jump.
We were especially excited to celebrate several new Somersfield records:
Aiden Livingston set new school records in the Over 10 Boys 800m and the Mile.
Trevor Mills set a new school record in the Over 10 Boys Long Jump.
Gabrielle Saunders broke school records in the Over 10 Girls 100m, Long Jump, and 200m.
To top off an incredible meet, Gabrielle Saunders was crowned Champion Girl for the Over 10 age group across the entire BSSF Track and Field competition — a fantastic accomplishment!
We are extremely grateful to the parents and families who were able to come out and support our athletes across the three days. Your encouragement from the stands made a real difference.
A special thank you also goes to Ms Curtis, who was in the stands each day supporting and preparing students for their events.
Huge thanks to Mrs Troake and Ms Winstanley, who trained and prepared all the students leading up to the event, and worked tirelessly at check-in on competition days to ensure all athletes were in their correct races and ready to perform. Their dedication and organisation helped make the meet such a success.
We are so proud of all our students for the hard work, courage, and enthusiasm they showed throughout the competition. Please join us in congratulating our athletes when you see them. Well done, Somersfield!
