Primary Pickleball a Smashing Success for Somersfield!

On Thursday, June 5th, a group of energetic and determined Somersfield Primary students travelled to the W.E.R. Joell Tennis Stadium to participate in a Primary Pickleball Tournament. Despite a busy morning of CAT testing, the students arrived ready to play, bringing positive energy and great attitudes to the courts.

The Somersfield team was made up of ten P5 and P6 students who had shown enthusiasm and commitment to the sport:
• Aela Fraser
• Annie Murphy
• Eva Desjardins
• Ethan Adelsberg
• Grayson Hartnett-Beasley
• Jeremy Ngaruiya
• Mateusz Dudek-Mealy
• Molly Morton
• Preston Stewart
• Sydney Peixoto

Students competed in doubles round robin matches, gaining valuable game experience. As the afternoon progressed, it was inspiring to see the level of improvement in their skills, confidence, and communication. Each student played multiple games and showed great perseverance and respect for their opponents.

The sportsmanship displayed by our team was outstanding, with Somersfield students cheering each other on, helping pack away equipment, and maintaining a positive attitude on and off the court. The event created a great sense of camaraderie among the students, and their passion for the game was clear throughout.

Their efforts paid off, with several of our players earning top finishes:
🥉 Molly Morton & Annie Murphy – 3rd place (Girls)
🥇 Aela Fraser & Eva Desjardins – 1st place (Girls)
🥇 Grayson Hartnett-Beasley & Preston Stewart – 1st place (Boys)

We are incredibly proud of all our student-athletes who represented Somersfield with pride, positivity, and teamwork. Whether they left with a medal or not, each player showed growth, resilience, and heart—qualities we value deeply in our school community.

A big thank you goes to Gavin Manders and his team for organizing such a fun, inclusive, and well-run event. Opportunities like this are so important for developing confidence and fostering a lifelong love of sport.

Congratulations to our Primary Pickleball team—you smashed it!
