Tennis and Pickleball Festival: Skill, Sportsmanship, and Camaraderie

On Tuesday, June 11th, and Wednesday, June 12th, a group of upper primary students from Somersfield Academy participated in tennis and pickleball festivals at the W.E.R Joell Tennis Stadium. The event saw 26 of our students engaging in a comprehensive programme designed to enhance their skills and foster camaraderie among peers from different schools.

Each morning was dedicated to honing their skills through various drills, where students focused on improving their techniques in both tennis and pickleball guided by Bermuda’s top coaches. These sessions were meticulously structured to cater to different skill levels, ensuring that every participant could benefit and progress. In the afternoons, students had the opportunity to put their newly acquired skills to the test by playing small matches against students from other schools. This competitive environment not only challenged them but also allowed them to apply what they had learned in real game situations.

Despite the sweltering heat on both days, our students demonstrated remarkable resilience and enthusiasm. Their dedication to improving their game was evident, as they showed significant progress by the end of the festivals. Beyond their athletic performance, they stood out for their exemplary sportsmanship, teamwork, and overall friendliness. They represented Somersfield with pride, forming friendships with students from other schools and creating a positive, inclusive atmosphere.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to Coach Gavin Manders and the Nspire team for organizing and hosting such an enriching event. The festival provided our students with an invaluable experience that went beyond just skill development. It was an opportunity for personal growth, learning, and making lasting memories. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the festival and are already looking forward to the possibility of participating again next year.
