Champions Again! Somersfield Retains Middle School Netball Crown

Somersfield has once again secured the Middle School Netball Championship, proudly retaining the title for the second consecutive year. The tournament started with a round robin and we drew against Dellwood 5-5 in a very physical game, but our girls held it together and played with good sportsmanship. We then drew 3-3 with Saltus and finally beat Sandys 8-3. This meant we progressed to the semi finals where we faced BHS and we won 6-3. The final was against Warwick and we took an early lead 7-3 at the end of the first half and the final score was 12-7 to Somersfield.

MVP goes to our captain Aniah Tucker who played WA and C, and showed excellent control of the game, jumping high for interceptions and transitioning the team from defence to attack. MIP goes to both Evelyn Fahy and Anya-Aeleishe Pearman. Evelyn was strong both as GA and GD, adapting well to the changes in both roles. Anya-Aeleishe developed her ability to jump onto the high ball passes in the circle and give us increased scoring opportunities.

All the players have improved so much since the start of the season. The lunchtime sessions coached by Ms Debre Evans and our team of M4-DP coaches have been instrumental in developing our players. Shout out to Ms Allison Farrell as team manager this year to both the U13 and O13 netball teams, her organisation behind the scenes has been a huge help to the PHE department and we are so grateful for her time and diligence.
