We joyfully celebrate the life of Gwen Fahy, a cherished educator and one of the founding teachers of Somersfield Academy. Gwen began her journey with the school in 1991 as a teaching assistant at the Montessori Academy at Tivoli, and over more than two decades, she became a cornerstone of our community, serving as Head of Children’s House and Primary until her retirement in 2013.
Gwen’s dedication to Montessori education brought joy, curiosity, and creativity to generations of students. She fostered a love of learning through exploration and discovery, shaping a vibrant and nurturing environment where children could thrive. Her influence extended beyond the classroom, inspiring colleagues, parents, and the broader school community. In honor of her remarkable contributions, the building housing our three-to-six-year-old division proudly bears her name—the Gwen Fahy Building.
Beyond her professional achievements, Gwen was a beloved mentor, friend, and family member. Her warmth, kindness, and infectious enthusiasm touched everyone around her. She is survived by her sons, Michael and Stephen, and her grandchildren, including Aydin, Zarah, Nasser, Evelyn, and Aine who continues the family’s connection to Somersfield Academy.
As we celebrate Gwen’s life, we remember a remarkable educator whose passion, joy, and dedication continue to inspire us all. Her legacy lives on in every child she nurtured and in every teacher she inspired.
