MYP Students participate in BUEI Youth Climate Summit

The BUEI Bermuda Youth Climate Summit took place this week with over 150 students aged 13-22 from schools across the island, including ten participants from Somersfield Academy. Guided by Hannah Horsfield, Education Programmes Coordinator at BUEI and a Somersfield alumna, students collaborated to foster engagement on global climate issues, inspiring them to be active contributors to positive change in their communities. Together, they laid the foundation for a year of youth-led activities centered around local climate concerns in conservation, sustainability, and climate justice.

The Summit has spanned six days, from November 10th to November 18th. The first five days, including three virtual and two onsite, were dedicated to education and engagement, thoughtfully scheduled during school hours for maximum participation. On the final day, all participants joined together for a collective conservation activity, emphasizing a sense of unity.

The Bermuda Youth Climate Summit provided a platform for young minds to address environmental challenges, learn from global experts, and create plans for a sustainable future. Throughout the week, these passionate individuals demonstrated their dedication to making a positive impact on our environment, both locally and globally.
