This Week on the Court: Somersfield Basketball Recap
The Somersfield Academy Middle School Boys Basketball Team traveled to MSA for an exciting away game that kept everyone on the edge of their seats. In a true nail-biter, Somersfield secured a hard-fought 18–17 victory in a highly competitive matchup.
Our team led from start to finish, demonstrating strong defense, teamwork, and composure throughout the game. Although MSA mounted a late comeback, our boys stayed focused and resilient under pressure to close out the win.
Key contributions came from Cooke with 6 points, Hugo with 4 points, and Bigley adding 3 points. Every player played an important role in maintaining our lead and controlling the pace of the game.
We are incredibly proud of the team’s determination, sportsmanship, and growth. Congratulations to our middle school boys on a well-earned victory! Go Somersfield!
Tough battle for Somersfield against MSA
Final score: Somersfield 36 – MSA 38.
After falling as many as 12 points behind in the first half, our JV Boys Basketball team showed incredible heart and determination to fight back and take a 23–19 lead in the second half. The teams traded baskets throughout the half. It was a complete team effort, and with a limited squad available, the players dug deep and competed from start to finish.
MSA applied full-court pressure for all 40 minutes, but the group handled it with composure, moved the ball well, and stayed disciplined, something that clearly frustrated their opponents.
Down 6 points with just 3 minutes to go, they gave themselves a chance and even had a final shot opportunity to send the game to overtime.
Although the result did not fall their way, this was a strong performance; their progress is evident.
Thank you to volunteer coach and parent Phil Davis for his continued commitment and support.
Middle School Girls
Our Middle School girls' basketball had a tough loss at home to MSA 12-6. After leading 6-2 early on, the Saints made a run and were able to hold on at the end to hand our Sharks their first loss of the season. M3 Anya-Aleiysha Pearman led the team with points (and some stellar defense) and Aniah Tucker contributed the other two points with a long range jump shot during the first half. M1 G'en Bell and M2 Evelyn Fahy also added some fine minutes with their playing time increasing.
The Sharks will undoubtedly bounce back and with several games left before the regular season ends, will be well-poised to make their playoff run!
JV Girls
Our senior girls are now 3-0 for the season after a convincing 15-5 win over the MSA Saints at home.
DP2 Aaliyah Haffar dropped 6 points with M5 Alyssa Andrews adding 4 points to lead the attack from the first tip. DP2 Rose Paulos scored 3 points and showed great leadership with DP1 Dezirae Darrell also contributing with some stellar defense. The girls now hit the midway point of the season top in their Division as they continue to make strides, and as always, show our stellar Somersfield sportsmanship!
