Somersfield Hosts Badminton League Opener as First Team Takes Early Lead
October 07, 2025 — Somersfield Academy hosted the opening round of the Senior School Co-Ed Badminton League after school yesterday, welcoming players from across the island for an afternoon of spirited competition. Participating schools this season include CedarBridge Academy, Saltus Grammar School, The Berkeley Institute, Warwick Academy, and Somersfield Academy.
Somersfield entered two teams in the first round, with several of our female players also lending their support to schools in need of additional players.
Somersfield’s First Team—comprising Dezirae Darrell, Paige Lindo, Rose Paulos, Matthew Troake, Max Wallace, and Aaron Lee—delivered strong performances, winning both of their matches comfortably against Berkeley and CedarBridge to take the top spot in the league standings.
The Second Team—Cora DeSilva, Sydney Troake, Max DeCouto, Raul Maldonado-Jaime, and Maikel Dela Cruz—fought hard in two closely contested matches, narrowly losing 2–3 to both Warwick and Saltus.
In the spirit of sportsmanship and collaboration, Margot Taylor and Emily Paulos joined forces with Berkeley and played impressively. Emmalyn Tothong and Kate Pursell supported CedarBridge, winning several matches against significantly older opponents. Annabel Olutiola teamed up with Saltus, helping them to edge past Somersfield’s Second Team in a thrilling final game that ended 21–23.
Somersfield looks forward to the next round of competition as our teams continue to demonstrate skill, teamwork, and resilience on the court.
