U13 Boys Make History with Knockout Cup Win!

December 10, 2024 — Congratulations to the U13 boys football team on winning the knockout cup!

In an epic final vs Warwick Academy the team triumphed 2-1 in the end. MVP Cairo Burgess scored both goals.

The teams were evenly matched in the opening exchanges. Somersfield won a free kick from about 40 yards out. Cairo kicked it into the box, it bounced in front of the keeper, then up and over him into the net. 1-0 Somersfield at half time.

Warwick came back strong at the start of the second half. They scored an excellently struck free kick just out of reach of the keeper to level it up 1-1.

Warwick continued to put us under pressure, but the defense held strong.

Coach Shon decided to make an attacking substitution and moved Cairo into striker for the last quarter of the game. Somersfield started creating chances with Charlie Kilborn forcing an excellent save from the keeper.

In the final minute, Cairo Burgess won a penalty. He calmly slotted it into the bottom right corner to send the Somersfield fans into ecstasy!

A huge congratulations to all the players who were involved in the team this season. Their teamwork, sportsmanship, hard work, and perseverance shone through! This is a historic victory as it is the school's first 11 aside cup win!

Thank you to Coach Shon , Coach Rychus , Cameron and all the other Leo Burgess Football Academy coaches for coaching our teams this year. They have done an outstanding job.

Thank you Mr. Wade for all your work with the football teams this year and for being linesman today.

Thank you to Warwick Academy for an excellent game.
