Somersfield Traditions: Craft Mornings in Children’s House & Primary
One of the most cherished Somersfield traditions in our Children’s House and Primary Divisions is our annual Craft Morning—a joyful celebration that blends creativity, community, and calm reflection as the first term comes to a close.
Craft Mornings are lovingly organised and led by our dedicated Class Parents, who thoughtfully design hands-on holiday projects for the children to enjoy. Rather than the typical end-of-year party filled with noise and sugar-fueled excitement, this tradition grew out of a desire to honour our students in a way that feels meaningful, engaging, and developmentally aligned.

During Craft Morning, classrooms are transformed into warm, inviting spaces where children can slow down and immerse themselves in a stimulating creative activity. With guidance and encouragement, each child creates a special craft to bring home—something tangible that reflects both their individuality and their year of growth at Somersfield.
As they work, the children enjoy hot cocoa and simple treats, adding a cozy and celebratory touch to the morning. The atmosphere is calm yet joyful, filled with focused creativity, conversation, and pride in their work.
This thoughtful approach to celebrating the end of the first term and the start of the holiday season embodies what we value most at Somersfield: intention, balance, and respect for the child. Craft Mornings allow our students to mark a milestone not through excess, but through meaningful engagement—creating memories, not just moments.
We are deeply grateful to our Class Parents for their creativity, care, and partnership in making this tradition so special year after year.
