SPTA Sponsors: ‘The Dangerous Truth About Today's Marijuana’ With Guest Speaker Laura Stack

Somersfield Academy will host parents from independent schools across the island to attend a youth marijuana prevention initiative, sponsored by the Somersfield Parent Teacher Association: Laura Stack, CEO of Johnny’s Ambassadors will shed light on the perils of today's marijuana use.

The event, scheduled for Monday, November 27 in Somersfield Academy's gymnasium, will commence at 5:30 pm. This discussion aims to enlighten parents, guardians, and community members about the evolving landscape of cannabis use among adolescents and young adults between the ages of 14 and 24.

The tragic story of Johnny Stack, a promising young individual whose life was cut short at 19 years old, serves as the poignant inspiration behind this initiative. Born on February 7, 2000, Johnny Stack was described as intelligent, charming, and academically accomplished with a 4.0 GPA and a secured college scholarship. His life, however, took a devastating turn after his early introduction to high-THC marijuana concentrates.

The event will delve into lesser-known aspects of marijuana use, including the critical distinction between smoking cannabis flower and the dangers associated with dabbing high-THC concentrates like wax, oil, shatter, or budder. Stack's story underscores the crucial need for awareness and understanding, especially among guardians unaware of these nuanced forms of cannabis use.

Laura Stack, CEO of Johnny's Ambassadors is a seasoned keynote speaker with over 30 years of experience. Her life took an unexpected turn when her son Johnny succumbed to the harmful effects of dabbing high-THC marijuana concentrates, resulting in psychosis and, ultimately, his untimely death. This personal tragedy transformed Stack's professional trajectory, leading her to dedicate her career to educating communities, schools, and families about the risks associated with youth marijuana use.

Through her book, The Dangerous Truth About Today's Marijuana: Johnny Stack's Life and Death Story, Stack aims to merge Johnny's cautionary tale with rigorous research, highlighting the alarming realities of current marijuana trends and advocating for prevention and education.

"We want to bring awareness and empower parents and communities to prevent tragedies like Johnny's from happening to other families," says Laura Stack.
