Somersfield Academy Announces Three New Appointments to Board of Directors

New Members Bring Expertise in Environmental Conservation, Financial Strategy, and Mental Health to Support Somersfield’s Mission

November 20, 2024 — Somersfield Academy is excited to announce the addition of three esteemed community leaders—Myles Darrell, Murricea Iris, and Dr Darrien Ray—to its Board of Directors. With these new appointments, Somersfield Academy strengthens its commitment to academic excellence, environmental stewardship, diversity, and student wellness. Each new board member brings a unique blend of expertise and dedication that will further the school’s mission to inspire and support its students both in and outside the classroom.

“We welcome Myles, Murricea, and Dr Ray to our Board of Directors,” said Dennis Fagundo, Chair of the Board at Somersfield Academy. “Each of them brings an exceptional perspective and expertise that will be invaluable as we continue to build a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. Their commitment to our values will only deepen our school’s dedication to the social responsibility and resilience in our students.”

“My goal is to help inspire a love of nature in the next generation,” Myles Darrel, Head of Natural Heritage at the Bermuda National Trust shared. “As part of Somersfield’s Board, I am excited to support initiatives that encourage our students to understand, respect, and care for the unique environment that surrounds us here in Bermuda.”

“Somersfield Academy is a place where every student is encouraged to grow into a socially conscious, independent thinker,” Murricea Iris, Senior Officer of Policy Development, Strategy, and International Affairs at the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA), remarked. “I am honoured to join the Board and to work with this incredible team to further strengthen our school’s commitment to inclusion and excellence.”

“Somersfield Academy’s holistic approach to education resonates deeply with me,” said Dr Ray, registered clinical psychologist and Director of Milestones LTD. “I am eager to contribute to an environment that values each child’s well-being and promotes their social and emotional growth alongside academic success.”
