Somersfield Expands Auxiliary Programme with New Camp Structure

October 24, 2025 — Somersfield Academy is excited to announce the next phase of its growing auxiliary programme, a refreshed camp structure now fully managed and operated by the school. This evolution reinforces Somersfield’s commitment to providing enrichment planted in its core values, while welcoming both current and prospective families to experience the school during break periods.

Since introducing its Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) programme in 2023, which now offers over 100 activities for student enrichment from surfing and North African cooking to Nature Photography,  Somersfield has expanded its focus to include a values-based camp programme designed to engage children in fun, skill-building experiences aligned with the school’s mission.

Under the new structure, all Somersfield camps are now Somersfield-run, ensuring consistent quality, safety, and alignment with the school’s educational philosophy. The only exception is the FortitudeRe Summer Reading Programme, which continues to operate independently on campus. This vital initiative serves public-school students by offering a free, intensive three-week literacy programme aimed at closing the primary-level literacy gap.

This week marked the launch of Somersfield’s first set of in-house camps under the new structure,  including a French Language Camp designed by IB teacher Julie Kulig, alongside two additional enrichment programmes for its Children’s House and Primary Divisions. The enthusiasm from families and campers have been remarkable.

“We couldn’t have asked for a better start,” said Kelly Rodday, Somersfield’s new Camp Coordinator. “Our first three camps have been full of energy, creativity, and community spirit. “Our community partners, like AgriLiving Institute and Trina Renee, brought such meaningful, hands-on experiences that truly reflect Somersfield’s values and it’s been wonderful to see campers so engaged and excited. We’re thrilled by the response and already looking forward to growing the programme for the December break and beyond.”

“As we approach the final phase of our Strategic Plan 2023–2027, the growth of our auxiliary programme reflects Somersfield’s commitment to meeting the needs of families,” said Kristen Scott Ndiaye, Director of Development. “Parents want a safe, structured environment where children ages 3-14 can learn, play, and explore while they are at work or managing other responsibilities. By keeping students on campus during breaks, we provide continuity of learning, opportunities for creativity and physical activity, social development, and meaningful experiences with community partners, all grounded in Somersfield values.”

With the success of this week’s launch, Somersfield is already planning to expand its offerings for the December break. Families are encouraged to register now to secure a spot. Camps are open to both Somersfield students and the wider community.
