Welcoming New Educators to Somersfield for 2025–26

As we step into Somersfield’s 35th anniversary year, we’re excited to welcome a group of outstanding educators whose experience, passion, and global perspectives will enrich learning across our school. In the spirit of our year’s theme, It Starts With Us, these colleagues will help us honour Somersfield’s legacy while building the future together.

Hannah Gibson — Lower Primary Teacher

Hannah brings international experience and a passion for inclusive, engaging classrooms. Since beginning her teaching career in 2019, she has taught in Spain, Manchester, and most recently at an international school in Dubai. Known for her student-centred approach, she’s a wonderful addition to our Lower Primary team.

Judith Welch — Learning Support & Mathematics Teacher

Judith joins Somersfield as a Learning Support teacher for Upper Primary, bringing over 10 years’ experience in Learning Support and Special Education in Bermuda’s public middle schools. She holds a Master’s in Special Education and an MBA—pairing strong subject knowledge with exceptional communication and organisational skills. Judith will also support Secondary Mathematics (MYP and DP) as needed, helping students thrive through thoughtful, creative, and impactful teaching.

Cecile Leonard — Secondary French

A French national with extensive IB MYP and DP experience, Cecile has taught at international schools in the UK, Germany, Tanzania, China, and most recently Thailand. As an experienced languages coordinator, she looks forward to strengthening collaboration across our Languages team.

Raúl Sánchez Saura — Secondary Spanish

Originally from Spain, Raúl brings seven years’ experience from leading UK schools including Eton College, Westminster, Rugby School, and St Paul’s Girls’ School. An experienced IB Diploma teacher, he joins us to teach Secondary Spanish—and is also fluent in French and Portuguese. A collaborative team player, Raúl is eager to contribute to Somersfield life.

Maria Anna Jasinski — Secondary Art

With over 30 years of experience in Canada, Kazakhstan, China, and Ukraine, Anna is well-versed in both the IB MYP and Diploma Programme. She champions student voice, encouraging learners to explore culture and social values through their art. We’re excited for her to help cultivate a vibrant, collaborative Arts team.

Allie Zuckerman — Part-time Secondary English & Individuals & Societies

Already familiar to our community through her internship at Somersfield, Allie previously taught German, Social Studies, and English at Pope John XXIII Regional High School in Sparta, New Jersey. Enthusiastic about history, languages, and philosophy, she also brings energy for theatre and debate as extracurricular opportunities. Married to a Somersfield alumnus, Allie looks forward to being fully involved in school life.

Valerie Smith — Secondary Mathematics Teacher

Valerie joins Somersfield from BCCL (Bermuda Centre for Creative Learning), where she served as a math support teacher. She brings a strong background in mathematics education and learning support, having taught math at multiple levels in Bermuda and previously served as a Mathematics Special Educational Needs Coordinator in the UK. Valerie is passionate about helping students build confidence and achieve mastery in mathematics, and she is excited to contribute to our collaborative Secondary Mathematics team.

As we welcome these talented educators, we’ll also be celebrating long-standing staff throughout the year, honouring the people who have shaped Somersfield over decades while embracing new colleagues who will help write our next chapter. Here’s to a year of learning, connection, and community, because at Somersfield, it starts with us.
