Somersfield Shines at 2024 BSSF Primary School Track and Field Championships
The 2024 BSSF Primary School Track and Field Championships were held at the Flora Duffy National Stadium, providing an exciting opportunity for our primary students to compete against peers from all over Bermuda. Our athletes participated in a range of events on Tuesday, May 7, and Thursday, May 9, with the goal of qualifying for the finals, which took place on Wednesday, May 15.
To advance to the finals, students needed to finish in the top 8 of their respective events during the qualifying days. Our students showed impressive determination and skill, resulting in a significant number qualifying for the finals. The competition was fierce, with the finals comprising the top 8 fastest runners, the furthest throwers, and the highest and longest jumpers from the qualifying rounds.
Throughout the qualifying rounds, our athletes displayed exceptional sportsmanship and perseverance. Events included sprints, relays, long-distance races, high jump, long jump, and throwing events. Each student gave their best effort, and it was evident that their hard work during training had paid off. On finals day, our students continued to shine, with many achieving personal bests and contributing to a strong overall team performance.
Some of our standout medal winners included Hugo Adams who won the gold medal and is now the record holder for P5 and P6 in the cricketball throw with ascore of 50.39m. Anna Green came 2nd in the cricketball throw and broke our school record with a score of 31.39m. Evelyn Fahy won the bronze medal in the 800m and the silver in the Randy Benjamin Memorial Mile.
We are incredibly proud of all our athletes for their dedication and achievements. Their participation in the BSSF Primary School Track and Field Championships showcased their athletic abilities and commitment to representing our school with pride and integrity.
